Todays block entry has a little finger-wagging in it. And seeing reason. And change.
I've been playing in loud bands for over 10 years now... and this fact my ears now have to experience - despite the consistent use of ear plugs. It's some kind of a light tinnitus but fortunately not that evil yet, there's probably no hearing loss (17kHz seems okay for my age I guess). But I have to change some things to keep my hearing and prevent damage. First of all I have to leave orchid of doom. As a drummer it's simply too much for my ears. During our last tour I had a ringing in my ears every night, despite hearing protection, of course. I really hope they'll continue without me, it's worth it.
Bombee will continue, but in a different way. Actually it has nothing to do with the tinnitus but with a changed view of music in general. Basically it will be electronic music, but without any external samples, we're recording everything by ourselves and writing and producing new songs currently. Of course it still will be Bombee, so we'll focus on voice, cello and acoustic guitar. In January we'll play some concerts with Playfellow, most probably a mixed set and after my return from Asia in April we'll play a totally new set.
Also my own electronic music got a new shape, I finally found the sound I was searching for such a long time. I'm currently developing a live set which I'll perform in early 2011 for the first time.
Let's end this blog with quoting Bob Dylan: "My ears are ringing, ringing like empty shells. Well, it can't be no guitar player, must be convent bells."
